Holistic Engineering
In 2007, a fresh master's graduate I was motivated to do something useful with my life and become an entrepreneur by starting a part-time business with the dream of sharing knowledge, gaining industry exposure and handing over the reins to my next of kin. I was working in a software applications engineering and my consultancy in electrical engineering had no direct influence, impact or conflicts in the direction of my day-to-day working life. The dream started.... I was destined to become successful. From my networking and canvassing the market I obtained key stakeholders and there was going to be plenty of good works in the pipeline but I was not very good at business and every agreement I signed put me further and further out of reach of my dreams. I had an agreement which set me for 50 brand new franchise developments, and the talks were just that talks. Once the paperwork was signed, they appointed me as the legal Electrical Engineer for their projects, sidelined me without payment and I was left with no recourse due to the bad contract agreements I signed without knowing or understanding contract law. The rich get rich and the engineer responsible for the projects got nothing. This was a trend which happened more than once where clients would canvas advice, solicit it freely and then you would never hear from them again nor would they be willing to actually pay for my advice. An ethical dilemma but this is the norm when dealing with shady people in the world we live in today, unfortunately this is more evident today. Once bitten, twice shy but I continued in my pursuit of finding ethical clients hoping there would be some good people left in this world, and I was horribly mistaken. The first thing a company wants is an NDA, to prevent you from publicly humiliating them knowing they are going to screw you over but you think to yourself that maybe this time it will be different. I signed the NDA's, put forward my knowledge and then miraculously I hear nothing but whispers that my ideas are not good for business yet a "competitor" is developing the same technology all of a sudden. Is this what the world has become. Everyone else tells me I am paranoid and that everything has already been done so my new creative ideas are not new they are in fact just ideas which would never materialize and why would anyone want to pay for this fallacy?
Why Holistic Engineering - This is the concept of entities existing in isolation but together form a unified solution. I am a self-proclaimed Holistic Engineer which brings together my past education, experiences and capabilities which are all different in nature but are all required to complete the concept, project or experience.

My fallacy is a construct of Electrical Engineering where I am well versed in the theoretical aspects of engineering applicable to various industries, situations and applications. I am also an Electronic Engineer, of which am well versed in the applications of automation and control systems including telecommunications & IT systems. In addition, I hold a Masters Degree in Engineering Management where I spent time learning to master the arts of project management, logistical management, reliability engineering and product development. My related industry experience is across domestic, commercial and industrial applications including mining, oil & gas, water, retail and various others. In addition to these, the most important skill anyone can learn is the ability to network successfully without the intentions to bring harm or reputational damage to those in your influence. It is easy to speak bad about someone, make them look bad in front of your peers, friends or relatives but the long-lasting effects have severe impact on the trust and repour established within the business profession. A man is only as good as his word. It is very hard to take something from the ashes of ruin, reinstate life and enable that entity to be what it wanted to become without sacrificing the integrity of the bias misconceptions, animosity, betrayal and deliberate sabotage of those who wished to destroy that entity. There will always be an element of lust which is human nature, the desire to be with that which we are without but that it exactly that, lust. It is usually a part-time token of acknowledgement or achievement to get something even though achieving it is not always the goal, sometimes knowing that you can achieve it is good enough. The question you need to ask yourself is where you seek your sense of achievement or fulfilment. Mine was always in my work, I love engineering and it is an absolute passion for me to design, build and construct solutions for direct applications in industry. The fulfillment I did not get at work, I would develop and learn those skills at home focusing on my strengths outside of the business interests. The businesses which employed me did not share my sentiment on learning the same skills but once I had acquired them they would be very quick to try access them. Still today, I am well versed in a lot of skills and versatile in my approach to work but if you get appointed for one directive and then get expected to act in another directive as a freebie, then your work does not respect your boundaries, authority or have appreciation for the skills you have acquired. The expectation for you to act in a dual role, performing the duties it would cost two highly trained individuals to perform at half the cost makes business sense.

Holistic is a term loosely used in engineering terms where companies are engaging in holistic principles in dealing with projects as it is an informative approach or reasoning where interdependent reasoning and questioning are used to identify solutions or highlight pitfalls.

The thought of circumnavigating the earth was once a pipedream before it became a reality by people brave enough to face the fears of failure. If fear is your only deterrent, then face it. If you have no fear, well that is a dangerous place to be because your statute of limitations will always be exceeded. You have to fear failure and risk your fear in order to overcome your fear. Your limit is your fear and without fear, you are destined to fail. Fear failure, know your limitations, set your expectations and reach for success. I tried pioneering Holistic Engineering and failed in a lot of ways but have gained more than I could ever have learnt from continued success.
